Writer-Photographer-Hiker-Former Big Kahuna

Mocksville, North Carolina 27028

Grew up fishing the NC's rural hills, found love of the out of doors with the help of the Boy Scouts, drafted by parents into military school at McCallie School, Chattanooga, TN., graduated from Harvard but not before the spirit of Alaska helped me find the Bluenose Ferry which carried me to Nova Scotia on what would be a seventeen year adventure in Canada, building barns, raising cattle, and joining Apple when the Apple II reigned supreme. Then 20 years at Apple before being shown the door when my wings melted as director of federal sales. Journeyed through consulting, email services and real estate before landing with WideOpen Networks in 2011. Lover of family, cats, dogs, water, kayaking, fishing, hiking and boating. Writer, photographer, and champion for what I see as good and just whether it equal access to French language training in rural Canada, decent treatment of customers and sales people by Apple, or protecting voting rights even in a red country. Five books to my credit including the Pomme Company and thousands of blog posts. Currently VP at WideOpen Networks and a staunch ally of those who want to bring competition along with fair and open pricing to the broadband market.

Good article and get better as you progress- "What moron, what utter nincompoop, would think, 'No, the president should get to do a coup if he wants'?"
  2. A Preview of How Our Government Could Go Off the Rails

If you want to know how our government will function if the former guy gets elected watch this series, Mr. Bates verses the Post Office. Clearly the vindictive behavior and the tactics of the British Post Office are exactly how the former guy would run his government, It is scary

  4. Being Part of the World

Back in the not so good world of the fifties when we feared polio and practiced hiding under desks to keep us safe from nuclear war, connecting with the world wasn’t optional. There is a good chance you walked to school. It was likely played dodge ball or kick ball on the playgro
  5. Which Career had the Most Impact Apple or the Farm?

In 1984 when the picture above was taken I was standing between my first career on the farm and my second one at Apple. For the first eleven years after college I farmed. After we sold our two hundred head of cattle, I went to work in town at one of the first computer resellers i
  6. We had a very nice dinner of carnitas and black beans tonight. The meal started with a package of sous vide carnitas from Trader Joe's. It is one of those things that I would buy again but with Trader Joe's you never know if you will ever see it again. #traderjoes

  11. Quiet Waters of the White Oak River

There is nothing like a perfect day on a big coastal river. For fifteen years I got to live a dream of being on the water where I could slide a kayak in the water and go fishing. We also had a skiff on a lift, but piloting a skiff is work compared to paddling a kayak. There is l

  13. Years ago when I farmed in the very wild hardwood hills of New Brunswick, there times when it was clear that Mother Nature was unforgiving and a mistake could be costly but there was no place like the steep slope of a mountain where I could roll the dice with my life. I might sl
  14. The Pro-Putin Party

Goose says we now have a list of pro-Putin republicans who need to be defeated at the ballot box. Bishop from eastern North Carolina is the only anti-democracy representative in the state. I hope voters send him home for his support of Russia. Good is one of two in Virginia. It i
  15. Goose Speaks

I am not a constitutional scholar. However, my ears have heard many parts of both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. From what I have learned, our government builds on the foundation that was laid by the Magna Carta. No freemen shall be taken or imprisoned or di
  16. Goose is Not Amused

As you can tell, something is getting under Goose's skin. I should not have let him listen to the national news. I am pretty sure it the NY criminal trial that has him perturbed. His paws of justice appear to be itching for action. I suspect he's got some not so nice thoughts
  17. We have to talk

It is time we start convincing people that government can work to make our lives better. The real problem is politicians who deliberately sabotage solutions just to stay in power.
  18. Goose is ready to debate

Goose agrees with this article in The Washington Post. Should any maganuts care to debate, Goose is ready, willing, and able. "In early February, congressional Republicans made a conspicuous choice. They decided to kill a bipartisan Senate deal that included tough border security
