Why do you need a trans friend? Because it’s so much harder to hate someone when they have a name and a face and they make you laugh. And I have all of those things. I’m funny and charming, I tell great stories, I might even get you to tear up once in a while. And while you’re busy seeing me as a human, you’ll start to see others as more human, too. In honor of Transgender Awareness Week and Transgender Day of Remembrance coming up on Monday, I wrote a little story. In celebration of Transgender Awareness Week, and in preparation for Trans Day of Remembrance next Monday, I put together a little story. I struggle with calls for gratitude - with how it can be used to silence voices, to minimize pain, to invalidate lived experience. Gratitude can (and should) be personal. A moment to revel in the softness of wool. I've been out for a while. We should catch up. Let's start with the most recent post from this week. Vacation is over, and the world hasn't changed much while I was away. This is all the permission I need to spread love through dad jokes today. It's Pride month, and that means taking a deep dive into everything, including the hard parts like transphobia. Third time is the charm, apparently. After an extraction of the baby bunny from inside the greenhouse where he got himself cornered, I believe the garden may now be safe from the voracious appetite of a growing lagomorph.
